The FBI National Academy Associates' Annual Youth Leadership Program
Since 2014, Dawn Tevepaugh has served as chief of the Durham Tech Police at Durham Technical Community College in North Carolina. She came to this position with decades of experience, having entered the field of law enforcement in 1993 with the University of North Carolina-Charlotte Police. Also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Dawn Tevepaugh belongs to the FBI National Academy Associates North Carolina chapter, which sponsors the FBI National Academy Associates' (FBINAA) annual Youth Leadership Program.
A rigorous eight-day program that challenges students both physically and intellectually, the Youth Leadership Program consists of physical activities, classroom learning, and guest lectures. To be eligible to participate, youth must be 14 to 16 years old at the start of the program and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and a strong attendance record.
Participants receive scholarships to participate through local FBINAA chapters, with scholarships covering both travel expenses and participation fees. Students benefit from training and study under the tutelage of National Academy graduates and FBI Special Agent personnel. After successfully completing the program and passing the final exam, students may apply for up to three college credits.
